Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered (PC)
|Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered is a 2025 remaster of the 2012 cult classic PS Vita game of the same name, originally developed by Artdink, the port has been overseen in house at Bandai Namco (Forge Digitals) this 2025 remaster hit shelves in May, with a PC and Switch version dropping, the PC version is what we’ll take a look at today.

Following through the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED timeline, DB (as I’ll refer to it from now) allows you to create a pilot and battle through pivotal events in the series. In terms of lore, if you’re a SEED fan, you should be able to pick up what’s going on here and there, personally being a newbie into Gundam, I’m not fully into SEED right now, so I was blissfully unaware of most of the characters and plot points, but fans will be at home with people like Kira Yamato, but those expecting Char Aznable and Amuro Ray might not really know who’s who without prior research.
The story is told in game with the Japanese voice cast talking over in game comms similar to how you see in Starfox. A small character box with some brief chat, this will be a tiny bit more substantial when something happens, whether it be a new suit coming in to battle or something of similar ilk. Cut scenes are non existent here which is a shame, which gives the story a much more minimal feel to it, more akin to other classic franchise Earth Defense Force, where a few more things feel very similar between the two games, but more on that later.

The game plays as more of an arena combat title, battles can take place over land, sea and in space, and usually are based around simple objectives, given this was a Vita game aimed for pick up and play it’s not changed its format here, missions are brief but keep the action high, defend x, defeat z, make sure x and get to y. But the action is pretty high octane, with multiple targets and allies in an arena at once, land battles slow the pace down a bit where boosts can’t be spammed, but air combat feels a bit more free with a slight hint of lack of control where multiple targets are in the vicinity, it can be pretty overwhelming cycling through locked on targets.
Personally I felt there was a significant jump in difficulty after around 10/15 campaign levels, despite each level having its own difficulty rating, this is where I wished I could have jumped over to another campaign to try some of the other Suits out, but alas I was stuck till I finished this mission. There’s no real difficulty sliders either, where other games which have levels listed one by one might have a difficulty selection, this is either get good or you’re not going anywhere which is a slight shame for newer or less skilled fans.

After a few missions into the game you’re given a decision to choose between factions, which will branch the story out. Each of these factions has unique levels to it obviously, you’ll primarily be fighting opposition suits and ships, with appearances from each of the main characters from the show, each of these you’ll again either fight with or against. With some of these being available to unlock as co-pilots in the campaign. Unfortunately once you pick your faction you’re stuck with it till you finish the campaign, this is a little rough as you don’t get to experience each different type of Gundam as you progress.
There are extras here as well, each level has an EX mode once completed to make it even more difficult, and there’s also a vs mode, which is unfortunately single player only, but you can play against other suits in 3 different types of battles here, a points battle, a wave based battle and just a simple one on one. These give some extra re playability, along with trying to unlock all the medals, suits and pilots.

Speaking of the suits, the amount of Mobile Suits you’ve got here is incredible, each faction has an array of different suit and vehicle types. Each unit selected has a variety of different weapons and suits can be upgraded to a degree, each level completed gives 2 forms of xp, one linked to your current suit and another as an overall, so if you want to stat boost a certain suit you can, but it’ll cost you a considerable amount more, and suits will also have a limit on how much they can be upgraded too. This can give you a bit more of a power fantasy vibe, if you wanna try and have the most powerful suit possible,
There’s a nice graphical upgrade here, but it still looks like a Vita game, the suits “suit” the visual style, where it’s not low poly but there’s a lack of detail on models here, if you’ve ever made Gunpla and had a kit without any decals or paint added, this is how the suits look in game, it’s simple but it sticks to the style of Gundam. Levels themselves are a little brash, very simple areas with a small amount of scenery which can be scaled, the levels themselves aren’t destructible, which again is a bit of a shame but doesn’t take away from the general playability of the game. I would have liked to have seen a few visual upgrades for this remaster, where potentially buildings could have been destroyed, a few more visual effects when traversing through different terrain types, but as it is, it’s serviceable.

Granted new series/movie Gundam Gquuuuuux has been generally received well globally, Gunpla kit sales are doing well too, there’s obviously a market for Gundam, but the games usually feel a bit of an after thought unless you like the RPG style of game, with absolutely bucket loads of time lines, suits and stories Gundam has many stories to tell, a remake of an older title is fine, but I think people will be clambering for something new.
Generally this is still a Vita game at heart, but with the lack of new Gundam games that aren’t Gundam Breaker or SD games, this will fill a hole for Gundam fans who haven’t had something to chew on for a bit. As a new fan it’s something fun to pick up and have short bursts with, a good pick up for the Steamdeck or the Switch.
Summary
A fun blast with loads of content, but not a great “pc experience”
