Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition Release Date

Nordic Games has announced that Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition is to release on 28th October on the PS4 and Xbox One (physical & digital) for 29.99 USD/EUR.

For fans of the original release who are worried this may just be a quick cash grab please think again.  This is not just you standard port – all visuals have been upgraded to a stunning 1080p, all DLC have been included into the main game*, the game has been balanced and the distribution of the loot has been improved.  This was on show at EGX this year and I was able to have a sit down with it.  It runs very smoothly and looks equally as pretty.  I honestly cannot to wait to play as Death again.  Another thing to point out is that the remaster is being handled by Gunfire Games, who consist of staff members from the former Vigil Games.

“It’s rare that as developers we get the opportunity to revisit one of our previous games. The passage of time and the numerous games we’ve worked on since Darksiders II shipped has allowed us to return to it with a fresh perspective. With that said, we went back to what is a huge game and addressed things we didn’t have time for or didn’t notice the first time. We started by revisiting every asset in the game, increasing the texture resolutions and brought the art up to spec to take full advantage of the new lighting and rendering. Darksiders II has a lot of DLC in the form of weapons, armor and unique locations. These pieces of DLC which felt separate from the main campaign have now been integrated into the game and rebalanced accordingly. Lastly, we’ve addressed much of the feedback we received after the game’s release in regards to balance and bugs. With all these changes, this is truly the Definitive Edition of Darksiders II.”
John Pearl, Design Director, Gunfire Games

Darksiders II follows on from the events of the first title where War is accused of causing the End of days.  Death is awoken restore mankind and to clear his brother’s name but along the way he learns there are far worse things than an earthly apocalypse, and that an ancient grudge may threaten all of Creation.

I personally hope that this remaster is successful as the series was one of my favourite of the last generation.  There is a lot they can do to continue the epic story and all fans alike are waiting for the day in which it is confirmed that you will get to play as the other Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

If you cannot wait to get your hands on Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, Gunfire Games did a live stream last night which is viewable in their archive now.
